"Fiesta Mexicana in Odaiba, Tokyo" has been held since 2000 to celebrate Mexico's Independence Day (September 16). The event is designed to strengthen the bonds of friendship between Mexico and Japan while offering a chance to experience Mexican culture up close. Now in its 25th year, it’s packed with activities to introduce the charms of Mexico to a wide audience and deepen everyone’s understanding of the country! For three days, “Odaiba Deck” will be transformed into Mexico!!
More than 30 tents will line the venue, offering folk crafts and local specialties for sale, as well as a taste of Mexican cuisine—part of which is registered as a UNESCO “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.” You can experience Mexico right here in Odaiba.
On stage, groups active in the Kanto region and neighboring prefectures will perform songs, musical pieces, and spectacular folk dances. For children, we’ve prepared fun Mexican activities such as “piñata smashing” (*). (*A game where children hit a piñata—a papier-mâché container filled with candy—to break it open in time with songs and music.) In a special area, you can enjoy Mexican professional wrestling, “Lucha Libre.” The luchadores (wrestlers), wearing colorful masks, perform acrobatic moves in a thrilling show. We will also host the “Mexico Photo Contest Winners Exhibition,” featuring a Mexican theme. We receive many outstanding entries every year, and the Grand Prize winner will be presented with a certificate and a commemorative gift from the Mexican Embassy. This event is designed to be enjoyed by families, groups of friends, and people of all ages.
