Nezu Museum of Art Project Exhibition "Amida Coming Pure Land: Longing for the Pure Land"

"Amida-sama" is a hot spot that everyone knows. This Amida Buddha was already worshipped in the Asuka period, and later, when the Pure Land cult became popular, it came to be revered throughout the country as a relief that led to a life of extreme pleasure. And with the development of Japanese Buddhism, Amida Buddha and his beliefs showed various aspects and became one of the pillars of Buddhist art. In this exhibition, focusing on the Buddhist paintings in the museum's collection, we will give an overview of the history of the Amida cult in Japan and its spread, as well as introduce examples of works in Goryeo. We hope that this exhibition will be an opportunity to learn about the brilliant and diverse world of art related to Amida.
