Suntory Museum of Art "Beauty Tsukushi_Osaka Municipal Museum of Art Collection"

The Osaka Municipal Museum of Art opened in 1936 as the third public art museum in the Japan after Tokyo and Kyoto. The collection has been built up over many years and covers more than 8,500 items such as Japan and Chinese paintings, calligraphy, sculptures, and crafts, and the period is truly diverse, from BC to modern times. In particular, it is characterized by the fact that it collects collections by business people in the Kansai region, and the Sumitomo family donated the site of the former main residence to Osaka City on the site of the museum.
Currently, the museum building is designated as a registered tangible cultural property (building), but it has been decided that large-scale renovation work will be carried out before the 90th anniversary of the opening (2026). Therefore, in this exhibition, taking the opportunity of this long-term closure, we will introduce carefully selected excellent items from each genre. This is the first exhibition where masterpieces that are rarely exhibited together at the same museum can be seen in one place outside the museum.
The exhibition name "Beautiful Horsetail" is a metaphor for "Mio Shiki Mio Tsukushi" which is also shaped like the Osaka City Chapter. Like the sign "Mio Marker" set up for the safety of the Nambazu shipping route, we will guide you to the world of collection with all your might.
