Tokyo City View "Shigeru Mizuki no Yokai Hyakugi Nocturnal Exhibition ~Haunted Monsters Were Born This Way~"
In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Shigeru Mizuki's birth, we will hold an exhibition where you can fully enjoy the yokai world of Shigeru Mizuki with magnificent scenery set in Tokyo City View. In this exhibition, we will unravel how the Japanese youkai depicted by Shigeru Mizuki were born. Mizuki's own collection of yokai-related materials, such as the Edo period painter Toriyama Ishiyan's "Painting Hundred Demon Nocturne" and the early Showa period folklorist Kunio Yanagida's "Yokai Dangi," were exhibited for the first time. And befitting the name of Hyakugi Nocturne, more than 100 yokai paintings of Shigeru Mizuki will be released at once.
How did Shigeru Mizuki, who immersed himself in yokai research and established the culture of "yokai" in modern Japanese, face and depict yokai? Please feel close to youkai through this exhibition.
