Panasonic Shiodome Museum of Art 20th Anniversary Exhibition / 100th Anniversary of the Second Main Building of the Imperial Hotel "Frank Lloyd Wright: Architecture that Connects the World"
Frank Lloyd Wright (1867–1959), master of modern American architecture. Wright, known for his work on the Kaufmann House and the Guggenheim Museum, is an architect with deep ties to Japan, having worked on the second main building of the Imperial Hotel (now partially relocated and preserved in the Museum Meiji-mura) and Jiyu Gakuen, and is also an ardent ukiyo-e lover.
In 2012, the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation transferred more than 50,000 materials, including drawings, to the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Avery Architecture and Art Library at Columbia University. Based on the results of this research, this exhibition is co-curated by Ken Tadashi Oshima (Professor at the University of Washington) and Jennifer Gray (Vice President of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and Director of the Taliesin Institute) in Japan and the United States, and reveals Wright's pioneering activities that have always been pioneering in interacting with diverse cultures centered on the Imperial Hotel.
Please enjoy a number of exquisite and brilliant drawings. Wright's global perspective, which has been active across the globe, should resonate with today's challenges of the 21st century and serve as a proposal for the future.
