Popular Spots Takeshiba and Odaiba Light Up! Tokyo Minato Illumination Special 2021
With Christmas Season just around the corner, illumination events have started in many parts of Minato Ward, Tokyo. Here, we will be reporting on the latest information and the actual events themselves.

Maxell Aquapark Shinagawa "NAKED STAR AQUARIUM"
In Maxell Aquapark Shinagawa, the "NAKED STAR AQUARIUM" has started from November 3rd to December 25th. The event is held in a collaboration with the famous creative company "NAKED, INC." which uses projection mapping to make a spatial light direction. Themed as "The ocean of stars," a unique atmosphere with aquatic animals and the latest technology is created using light, sound, and movies.
The "Welcome Christmas Tree" is what you would see when you step into the facility. This interactive white tree, reminiscent of a snowy night, would make ornaments pop up when you cast your hand over it.
The next event is "Sky Over City." This is the Christmas version of the immersive area "Patterns," where you can experience a whole new world through a dynamic movie direction using 22 projectors. You can see the Winter constellations and bright stars around, with the view of Tokyo from the sky. The "Starry sky above the capital" is one magical sight.
In the water tanks, Longhorn cowfish and Pink flashers, animals that resemble the constellations, swim. It feels as if you are taking a walk inside the starry sky.
At "Bright Sky Street," 7 species of marine angelfish resembling angels swim inside a starry sky-like space. In "Jellyfish Ramble," jellyfish create countless stars in the sky under blue and yellow light. Both spots are breathtakingly beautiful.
At the dolphin performance, two programs, "Christmas Memories" in the day, and "Bright Christmas Party" at night, are held.
During the event, Christmas limited menus are served at the "Shiny Starry Bar." Why not have fun in this unique atmosphere created by aquatic animals and fantastical lighting?
Tokyo Port City Takeshiba
Takeshiba is one of the most up-and-coming areas in Minato Ward. The glittering illumination at Tokyo Port City Takeshiba, a new spot in Takeshiba, can be seen from November 1st to February 28th. (Light up: 4 PM ~ 10 PM)
The main part of the illumination is at the avenue beside Takeshiba Dori. If you look from Hamamatsucho Station, you can see the combination of the illumination and the light-up of the mast at Takeshiba Futo Park.
Another feature of the building, the Skip Terrace, turns into a limited-time scene with the lights. The third floor Green Plaza is lit with gentle lights, creating a warm atmosphere.
Christmas trees are set on the third and sixth floors and add fanciness of Winter to the evolving city.
Shmbashi Station SL Square "2021 Shimbashi Illumination"
Shimbashi Station SL Square is holding "2021 Shimbashi Illumination" from November 11th to January 8th. (Light up: 5 PM ~ 11 PM)
Every year, the illumination at Shimbashi has created a variety of directions with themes that reflect the current world. This year, the lights and music create the theme "The SL that connects circles."
The SL, decorated with large and small rings, reiterates the importance of continuing to connect the circle of community and relationships.
Also, a show is aired every 10 minutes with lights and original sounds. The powerful music with an extending impression gives energy to the city.
Akasaka Sacas "Sound x Terrace 2021-2022"
Akasaka Sacas holds its "Sound x Terrace 2021-2022" from November 19th to February 20th. The colorful light dyes the central avenue of Akasaka Biz Tower. (Light-up: 4 PM ~ 0 AM, Closed on January 23 2022)
The LED illumination that can express 1670 colors resembles the changing seasons. At the main entrance, a 100th-scale 3.33 m Tokyo Tower-shaped illumination statue can be seen. Also, heart-shaped illumination with light stands for selfies make this place a popular photo spot.
This year, a 2.3 m illumination, "Snow Bear," resembling a polar bear awaits you.
From 5 PM to 9 PM, a sound and light show is held every 30 minutes. The colorful light dances to popular Christmas tunes and is a must-watch.
There are also restaurants with great views of the illumination. Why not have a wonderful time under the colorful lights?
Odaiba "Wangan Date Night"
Odaiba is a place where you can enjoy illuminations all year. The night scenery of Rainbow Bridge is a view that only Minato has. Also, in the Winter season from November 22nd to February 14th, "Wanga Date Night" is held. The 1 km ocean deck that connects "DECKS Tokyo Beach," "Aqua City Odaiba," and "Hilton Tokyo Odaiba" changes into a "flower road of light" with flower and heart-shaped light-ups based on the image of each facility.
Of the three facilities, Aqua City Odaiba holds "Seaside Illumination" all year. Around 300 thousand lights color the whole seaside exterior view. (Light-up from 5 PM to 11 PM)
The "LOVE" sculpture is located on the 3rd floor, Goddess Terrace. The "KISS" sculpture is on the seaside deck. Both are popular photo spots with Rainbow Bridge as their background.
On the other hand, DECKS Tokyo Beach holds "Odaiba Illumination 'YAKEI'" every day from sunset to 0 AM. One of the largest trees in Tokyo, its height 20 m and width 10 m, is at its center. The whole area lights up with the "Daiba Memorial Tree" at its center.
The best place to watch the illumination is the Seaside Deck located on the third floor of DECKS Tokyo Beach. The "Seaside Terrace" deck has benches with roofs, and with its romantic atmosphere, conversations sure will go well. Also, the "ODAIBA" letters of the Seaside Terrace shines and is a popular photo-taking spot.
Also, at "Wangan Date Night," the "LOVE Passport" Instagram campaign is held. If you fulfill the specified conditions, you'll have the chance to receive discounts at restaurants and shops.
