Toraya was founded in Kyoto in the late Muromachi period, and has been running a Japanese confectionery shop for five centuries since then. Since the reign of Emperor Goyosei (1586~1611), he has been serving the Imperial Palace. In the second year of the Meiji Era (1869), the store in Kyoto was retained and expanded to Tokyo. We first set up shop in Akasaka in 1879 (Meiji 12), and we are about to celebrate 150 years.
This time, at Toraya Akasaka Gallery, we will introduce the history of Toraya and the architecture of the Akasaka store in a panel. In addition, among the historical materials in Toraya's collection, reproductions of "Kuzenan" and "Gomonkan" related to the Imperial Palace's business will be exhibited.
