Taro Okamoto Memorial Museum Special Exhibition "Facing Eyes"

Taro Okamoto started his career as a "Western-style painter", but the content of the paintings was very different from that of ordinary Western-style painters. Landscape paintings, portraits, still lifes, nude paintings... Because I do not draw a general Western subject at all.

So what on earth was Taro drawing? Unfortunately, you can't see what it represents just by looking at the picture. However, there is only one thing that is clear. It is "Eyes". Taro's picture always has an eye. Moreover, many are multiple eyes.
I don't know the specifics, but at least there is no doubt that taro was drawing "living things" and "life". Taro Okamoto was a writer who drew life.
In particular, "confronting eyes" are frequent motifs. Two "life" talk, stare, and laugh at each other. And, several eyes make the vitality, make the crowd, and stare at the person who sees the person before one is 1999.
