Nezu Museum of Art Designated as An Important Cultural Property Special Exhibition "Suzuki Kiichi, Natsetsukei Stream Map Folding Screen"

"Natsetsukei stream drawing folding screen" which becomes the brush of Suzuki Koichi (1796-1858) is a work that is filled with a strange sense on the screen depicting the forest of cypress with the water flow that cuts the rocky place with a certain sense of reality.
Part 1 is the high brother of Sakai Huiichi (1761-1828), who honored Korin Ogata (1658-1716), who was active in Kyoto a century ago in Edo, and became the founder of the "Edo Rinpa", but he showed his individuality by adding thorough realism expression, sharp sense of modeling, and sometimes fantastic images. At the center of the painting industry is "Natsumyokei-ryu-zu Folding Screen", which is the biggest unique work and a masterpiece. In 2020, it was designated as an Important Cultural Property for the first time as one of them.
In this exhibition, in addition to the influence of Hoichi and korin learning, we will examine the intake of non-Rinpa style such as Maruyama Okyo, Tani Bunjo, kano school in the old era, and the production attitude of integrating them based on the feeling of nature, and explore the secret of the birth of this work.
