Okura Shukokan Project Exhibition "Okura Collection - The Beauty of Faith"

The businessman Okura Kihachiro (1837-1928), who founded the Okura Shukokan, was concerned about the situation in which Buddha images and paintings were being discarded and discharged from temples and shrines due to the abandonment of the Buddha in the first year of the Meiji Era, and he made efforts to protect these cultural properties. Among the Buddhist art works collected by Kihachiro, there are many excellent works from the Middle Ages to the early modern period, such as the Buddha faith, esotericism, and the beautiful beauty created by the Pure Land Cult.
This exhibition focuses on these Japan Buddhist art collections, traces the history of faith with a focus on the collection, and introduces the forms of prayer and beauty of the people entrusted to them.
We will also open the masterpiece representing the hotel, the National Treasure "Fuken Bodhisattva Equestrian Statue".
