Festivals at Akasaka Hikawa Shrine, Continuing Since the Edo Period
Akasaka Hikawa Shrine, which has been enshrined for over a thousand years and is deeply believed in warding off misfortune and matchmaking, will host the Akasaka Hikawa Festival, a festival continuing since the Edo period. This year, the main event is the shrine mikoshi: on the 11th, the 'Eve Parade' features the Hikawa float and neighborhood mikoshi; on the 12th, the 'Children's Parade' features children's portable shrines and drum floats; and on the 13th, the 'Shinko Festival' features shrine processions, shrine mikoshi, and two Edo-style floats through the parishioners' area. Food stalls, Bon dance, Akasaka famous shopping street, and dedication performances are also held, making it a festival that feels the connection between tradition and the community.
