Okura Shukokan Special Exhibition Okura Gumi Shokai 150th Anniversary Commemorative "Encounters of Great Men: Modern Calligraphy and Words"
150 years ago, in October 1873 (Meiji 6), Okura Gumi Shokai was established by Kihachiro Okura. Okura Gumi Shokai later grew into a large company that was counted as one of the 15 conglomerates. In this exhibition, which marks the 150th anniversary of the establishment of Okura Gumi Shokai, we will exhibit calligraphy works by the founder, Kihachiro Okura, and Tsuguko Kishichiro, as well as works by great Japanese and Chinese people who interacted in business and literary venues, and will exhibit the exchange between poetry and calligraphy gifts.
Kihachiro and Kishichiro were known as patrons who were involved in the establishment and maintenance of the Okura Shukokan Museum, but they valued the connection between public and private, gave gifts of poetry, and held bunga meetings to create their own works. Through his works, you will see the appearance of Okura and his son, who led not only the business world at that time but also the world of bunga.

*From 1/1~1/14, we will also have a special exhibition of paintings and crafts from the museum's collection suitable for the New Year.
