DesignShop AZABU "1989 Shigeru Uchida Design Exhibition -With Dear Bella Reprint-"
1989 was also a milestone year for Shigeru Uchida (1943-2016), one of Japan's leading interior designers. Uchida commissioned the world-renowned architect Aldo Rossi to design the hotel, and the first design hotel in Japan opened. In addition to Uchida, who was involved in art direction and interior design, the Hotel Il Palazzo (Fukuoka) became a global topic with the participation of world-class creators such as Ettore Sottsass, Shiro Kuramata, and Ikko Tanaka. The following year, in 1990, Aldo Rossi was awarded the Pritzker Prize, which is said to be the Nobel Prize of architecture.
His collaboration with Aldo Rossi would have a great influence on Uchida's subsequent style.
In this exhibition, we will introduce various product designs created by Uchida, such as "Dear Morris" (1989, Hall Clock), which was reprinted as a tribute to Uchida and Aldo Rossi during the renewal of Hotel Il Palazzo in 2023, and "Dear Vera" (1989, desk clock), which has been reissued from Japan.
We hope that you will feel the achievements of the two of them in 1989 together with the product.
