From Platinum Street, enter the campus of the Institute of Medical Science of the University of Tokyo. This research institute is the old Infectious Disease Research Institute transferred here in 1906 and is the largest Life Sciences research institute in Japan with an attached hospital. The former Institute of Public Health and 1st Building inside the campus is constructed in an imposing Gothic style by the architect Yoshikazu Uchida. The campus is connected by promenades from the West gate all the way to the Main Entrance. There are splendid sceneries of cherry blossoms in spring and maple leaves in autumn, a secret scenic spot for those in the know.
