A new art museum opened in the fall of 2002 in a corner of Izumi Garden in Roppongi 1-chome. The main building is located in Sakyo-ku, Kyoto City, and stores and exhibits the collection of the Sumitomo family that has continued since the Edo period. The name of the museum is said to be derived from Sumitomo's house name "Izumiya" in the Edo period and the bronze catalog "Boko Catalogue}, which was compiled by order of the emperor in China a thousand years ago.
